We have had a change of plans, and are selling Maru. She is a (probably the only) junk rigged Hunter Horizon 23; built on the same fast hull as the Sonata and Duette, with bilge keels.

She is rigged with an unstayed mast and has a sail built and designed by David Tyler (one of the most successful designers of modern junk rigs) which has both bending battens and camber built-in to achieve a sail that will go well to windward.

Outboard powered, the engine lives in the port cockpit locker.

Her layout includes 2 berths in the main cabin and a cosy double under the cockpit. The original bumf said that you could also sleep 2 small children forward - but where would you put all your gear?

She has a separate heads compartment to port, just inside the cabin.

The main hatch has been constructed higher than usual, with windows enabling dry and warm watchkeeping at sea from inside although the original hatch is available if you wanted to change it back (see pictures above and below)

On the transom is a bracket for a wind vane self steering gear (not included in the sale) - could be modified or I'll remove it and make good the securing holes.

The engine is a 2 stroke Yamaha 5 hp - older, but works well.

She has an LED masthead tricolour, and pulpit/pushpit navigation lights. VHF aerial installed on the mast.

Bruce anchor and chain in the forward anchor locker.

Midships cleats - very useful!

Warps and fenders

2 batteries charged separately by 2 x 40w solar panel - works very well.

Boarding ladder on the transom.

Porta-Potti type wc

Perspex top hatchboard for light below. The lower plywood one needs varnishing/painting - as you can see!

Rachel, Unity and I have used her for learning about junk rig, sailing locally around the Solent and to the nearer coasts of France.

Call me for more information - or just to talk boats!  Matthew on 07788 564170 or email sailsinthesunset1357@gmail.com
